---|---|---|
A. Solis-Añorve et al. 2019 | N. palmadentis differs from the Archaeoceti and all the Mysticetes,
except for the Superfamily Aetiocetoidea because it exhibits teeth in the adult stage. N. palamadentis has an estimated length of 3.2–3.5 m. It does not show a flattened rostrum, but it presents a supraorbital process with a symmetry on both sides of the skull that is not observed in the lateral view, which occurs with members of the Aetiocetidae family. From a dorsal view, the skull is triangular and wide. The molars are slightly globose and have eight cusps that are somewhat triangular, unlike Llanocetidae that displays molars in a rounded form. The molars have two bifurcated roots without a separation between them and do not have a sagittal crest such as Janjucetus hunderi and Mammalodon colliveri. The stylohyals are elongated and cylindrical, and the zygo- matic process is elongated and wide in the middle region, while the anterior region is thinner. From a lateral view, there is no elevation in the anterior region of the nasals; the premaxillae are flat, and the posterior region of the tympanic bullae is broad. From a dorsal view, the bullae show an oval shape. N. palmadentis does not have an external occipital crest. The lacrimal is elongated, and its edges are rounded. |
