Anthichnium was named by Nopcsa (1923). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon.
It was synonymized subjectively with Batrachichnus by Ptaszyński and Niedźwiedzki (2004).
It was assigned to Dendrerpetontidae by Haubold (1971); to Temnospondylia by Haubold (1974); and to Temnospondyli by Surkov et al. (2007).
