Taxonomy
Steleopteron cretacicus was named by Zheng et al. (2018). Its type specimen is NHMUK CH 879viii, a wing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Clockhouse Brickworks (BMNH collection), which is in a Hauterivian lagoonal mudstone in the Weald Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
