Taxonomy
Nyctiphruretus was named by Efremov (1938). It is not extant. Its type is Nyctiphruretus optabilis.

It was assigned to Nyctiphruretinae by Efremov (1938) and Colbert (1946); to Nyctiphruretia by Lee (1995); and to Nyctiphruretidae by Olson (1962), Carroll (1988), Lee (1997) and Ivakhnenko (2008).
