Acheloma
Taxonomy
Acheloma was named by Cope (1882). Its type is Acheloma cumminsi. It is the type genus of Achelomidae. It was considered monophyletic by Polley and Reisz (2011).
It was assigned to Eryopidae by Cope (1882), Cope (1884), Hay (1902), Broili (1913); to Achelomidae by Watson (1919); to Trematopsidae by Dilkes and Reisz (1987), Carroll (1988); to Temnospondyli by Maddin et al. (2012); and to Trematopidae by Anderson et al. (2008), Polley and Reisz (2011), Schoch (2013), Osterling Arias et al. (2024).
