Taxonomy
Plecia graciliventris was named by Theobald (1937). Its type specimen is Marseilles Museum C90, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Célas, Gard (Museum Marseille collection), which is in a Priabonian lacustrine marl in France.
It was recombined as Penthetria graciliventris by Skartveit and Nel (2017).
