It was recombined as Perchoerus socialis by Hay (1902), Matthew (1909), Cope and Matthew (1915), Pearson (1923); it was recombined as Palaeochoerus socialis by Stevens et al. (1969); it was recombined as Cynorca sociale by Woodburne (1969), Wright and Eshelman (1987), Wright (1998), Albright (1999); it was recombined as Marshochoerus socialis by Prothero (2015), Prothero (2021).
