Stylodictya was named by Ehrenberg (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: J l R]. It is extant. Its type is Stylodictya gracilis.

It was assigned to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002); and to Spongodiscidae by De Wever et al. (2001), Sharma and Takahashi (2007).
