Eoamaltheus arayaensis was named by Hillebrandt (2006). Its type specimen is TUB 841206/11/1, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Puesto Araya (sample 841206/11), which is in a Davoei carbonate limestone in Argentina.
