Togocyamus was named by Oppenheim (1915) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than-u Sepkoski's reference number: 934].

It was assigned to Fibulariidae by Durham (1955) and Durham (1966); and to Clypeasteroida by Sepkoski (2002).
