Corethrella prisca was named by Borkent and Szadziewski (1992). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Bitterfeld amber (MfN collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Germany.
It was recombined as Corethrella (Corethrella) prisca by Borkent (2008), Borkent (2014), Pielowska et al. (2018).
