Taxonomy

Ichneumonides was named by Latreille (1802). It is extant. Its type is Ichneumon.

It was corrected as Ichneumonidae by Cockerell (1921), Meunier (1923), Rasnitsyn (1975), Zhang (1989), Carpenter (1992), Sharkey (2007), Khalaim (2014), Archibald et al. (2018), Klopfstein and Spasojevic (2019).

It was assigned to Ventropedonculati by Latreille (1802); to Hymenoptera by Cockerell (1921), Meunier (1923), Zhang (1989); to Apocrita by Carpenter (1992); and to Ichneumonoidea by Rasnitsyn (1975), Sharkey (2007), Khalaim (2014), Archibald et al. (2018), Klopfstein and Spasojevic (2019).

Synonyms

Liaoichneumon was named by Hong (2002).

It was considered a nomen nudum by Hong (2002), Hong (2002).
Liaoichneumon asiatica was named by Hong (2002). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Xilutian coal mine, Fushun amber (post-1980 collection), which is in a Ypresian terrestrial amber in China.

It was considered a nomen nudum by Hong (2002), Hong (2002).
Polysphincta atavina was named by Cockerell (1921). Its type specimen is BMNH H. 1036, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Bembridge Marls (Hooley coll), which is in a Priabonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Bouldnor Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Khalaim (2014).
Ichneumonidae gabbroensis was named by Handlirsch (1907). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Gabbro (Bosniaski collection), which is in a Messinian terrestrial horizon in Italy.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Menier et al. (2004).
