Taxonomy
Protabanus chaoyangensis was named by Hong (1982). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Lamagou, sample 75LcJ1, Liangtou district, Chaoyang County, which is in a Callovian/Oxfordian terrestrial mudstone in the Jiulongshan Formation of China.
