Balticaphis hauniae was named by Heie (1967). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Danish Amber (University of Copenhagen ZMUC, NHMD Collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Denmark.
It was recombined as Megapodaphis hauniae by Heie (1972), Wegierek (1996), Heie and Wegierek (2011).
