Heterotrypus septentrionalis was named by Chopard (1936) [Zoological Museum of the University of Berlin, Colln. of Recent Orthoptera]. It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Zoological Museum, Humboldt Univ Berlin (ZHMB MfN) Collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation. It is the type species of Electrogryllus.
It was recombined as Electrogryllus septentrionalis by Gorochov (1992).
