Taxonomy

Hemithrips was named by Bagnall (1923). Its type is Hemithrips femoralis. It is the type genus of Hemithripidae.

It was assigned to Heterothripidae by Mound (1968); and to Hemithripidae by Mound and Hastenpflug-Vesmanis (2021).
