Taxonomy

Rhynchitini was named by Gistel (1848). It is extant.

It was assigned to Rhynchitinae by Alonso-Zarazaga and Lyal (1999), Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Rhynchititae by Legalov (2015), Legalov (2019).

Synonyms

Masteutes saxifer was named by Scudder (1893). It is an impression. Its type locality is Florissant (MCZ Collection), which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in the Florissant Formation of Colorado.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Legalov (2015).
Isotheini was named by Scudder (1893). It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Rhynchitini by Legalov (2013).

It was assigned to Isotheinae by Scudder (1893), Alonso-Zarazaga and Lyal (1999), Bouchard et al. (2011).
Isotheina was named by Scudder (1893).

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Isotheini by Legalov (2013).

It was assigned to Isotheini by Bouchard et al. (2011).
Rhynchites hageni was named by von Heyden and von Heyden (1866). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Rott (Krantz Bonn coll), which is in a MP 30 lacustrine - large shale in the Rott Formation of Germany.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Legalov (2015).
