Ceratopogon anomalicornis was named by Loew (1850). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Berendt collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Poland.
It was recombined as Serromyia anomalicornis by Szadziewski (1988), Borkent and Bissett (1990), Borkent and Wirth (1997), Borkent (2013), Szadziewski (2018), Borkent and Dominiak (2020).
