Taxonomy
Thoracophorus was named by Motschulsky (1837). It is extant. It is the type genus of Thoracophorini, Thoracophorina.

It was assigned to Osoriinae by Irmler (2003); to Thoracophorini by Cai et al. (2016); and to Thoracophorina by Herman (2001), Yamamoto et al. (2024).
