Taxonomy
Macromastix cladoptera was named by Cockerell and Haines (1921). Its type specimen is BMNH I.10397, a wing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Bembridge Marls (Brodie coll), which is in a Priabonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Bouldnor Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Leptotarsus (Macromastix) cladoptera by Evenhuis (1994), Krzemiński (2019).
