Taxonomy
Ricania fulgens was named by Brodie (1845). It is an impression. Its type locality is Dinton, Vale of Wardour, Middle Purbeck, which is in a Berriasian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal horizon in the Lulworth Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Ricaniites.
It was recombined as Ricaniites fulgens by Handlirsch (1906), Szwedo et al. (2004).
