Taxonomy

Sciara prisca was named by Germar (1839). It is an impression. Its type locality is Solnhofen (BSPGM Munich coll), which is in a Tithonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Solnhofen Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Ephemera prisca by Hagen (1862); it was recombined as Mesephemera prisca by Handlirsch (1906), Demoulin (1955), Ponomarenko (1985), Willmann (2007).

Synonyms

Ephemera speciosa was named by Oppenheim (1888). It is an impression. Its type locality is Solnhofen (BSPGM Munich coll), which is in a Tithonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Solnhofen Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Mesephemera speciosa by Handlirsch (1906); it was synonymized subjectively with Mesephemera procera by Carpenter (1932); it was synonymized subjectively with Mesephemera prisca by Demoulin (1955).
Anomalon palaeon was named by Weyenbergh (1874). Its type specimen is TM 6534, an exoskeleton, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Solnhofen (Teyler Museum Collection), which is in a Tithonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Solnhofen Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Mesephemera palaeon by Handlirsch (1906); it was synonymized subjectively with Mesephemera prisca by Demoulin (1955).
