Taxonomy
Formica (Protoformica) proformicoides was named by Dlussky (1967). Its type specimen is PIN 364/371, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic amber (PIN collection 364), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Lithuania.
It was recombined as Formica proformicoides by Spahr (1987); it was recombined as Protoformica proformicodes by Dlussky (2008).
