Taxonomy
Archaeosimos cegsai was named by Pledge (1992). Its type specimen is SAM P31800, a mandible (left adult dentary), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Corra-Lynn Cave, which is in a Miocene/Pliocene cave horizon in Australia. It is the type species of Archaeosimos.
