Taxonomy
Ammonites megaphyllus was named by Beyrich (1864). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bakanassij, south of Kupang (ammonoid layer), which is in a Triassic carbonate limestone in Indonesia.
It was recombined as Arcestes megaphyllus by Rothpletz (1892).
