Taxonomy
Steneosaurus gracilis was named by Phillips (1871). Its type specimen is OXFUM J.1431, a partial skull (skull encased in matrix, lacking snout), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Metriorhynchus gracile by Woodward (1885); it was recombined as Cricosaurus gracilis by Young and Andrade (2009), Bronzati et al. (2012), Parrilla-Bel and Canudo (2015).
