Pyrulina was named by d'Orbigny (1839) [Sepkoski's age data: J m R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Polymorphinidae by Wienrich (1997); to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Polymorphininae by Cushman (1927) and Missotti (2022).
