Kolymoptera was named by Gorochov (1988). Its type is Kolymoptera magadanica. It is the type genus of Kolymopterinae.

It was assigned to Kolymopterinae by Gorochov (1988), Gorochov (1995); and to Susumaniinae by Gorochov (2000).
