Hemimylacris was named by Handlirsch (1906).

It was assigned to Hemimylacrinae by Pruvost (1919); to Mylacridae by Handlirsch (1906), Handlirsch (1920), Bolton (1921); and to Hemimylacridae by Laurentiaux (1950), Durden (1969).
