Taxonomy
Protocuneus punctatus was named by Cockerell (1915). Its type specimen is USNM 61397, an elytra, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Wilmcote (Brodie coll), which is in a Planorbis carbonate claystone in the Blue Lias Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Protocuneus.
