Taxonomy
Palaeopyramidium was named by Goodbody (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u S Wenl-u]. Its type is Palaeopyramidium spinosum.

It was assigned to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palaeoscenidiidae by De Wever et al. (2001), Noble et al. (2017).
