Lipotactini was named by Ingrisch (1995). It is extant. Its type is Lipotactes.

It was reranked as the subfamily Lipotactinae by Mugleston et al. (2018).

It was assigned to Tympanophorinae by Gorochov (2010); and to Tettigoniidae by Mugleston et al. (2018).
