Embidopsocus was named by Hagen (1866). It is extant. It is the type genus of Embidopsocini.
It was assigned to Liposcelididae by Nel et al. (2004), Nel et al. (2005); and to Embidopsocinae by Lienhard and Smithers (2002), Engel (2016).
