Termes (Mixotermes) lugauensis was named by Sterzel (1881). It is an impression. Its type locality is Gottes-segen-schacht, Lugau, which is in a Westphalian D terrestrial horizon in Germany. It is the type species of Termes (Mixotermes).
It was recombined as Mixotermes lugauensis by Scudder (1885), Handlirsch (1906), Handlirsch (1919), Handlirsch (1922).
