Taxonomy

Neogriffithides was named by Tumanskaya (1935) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-u P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 624,892]. Its type is Neogriffithides gemmellaroi.

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Proetinae by Owens (2003); and to Bollandiinae by Flick and Shiino (2021).

Neoproetus (Siciliproetus) was named by Kobayashi and Hamada (1980).

It was synonymized subjectively with Neogriffithides by Jell and Adrain (2002).

It was assigned to Neoproetus by Kobayashi and Hamada (1980).
Neoproetus (Paraproetus) was named by Kobayashi and Hamada (1979). Its type is Proetus girvanensis.

It was replaced with Neoproetus (Siciliproetus) by Kobayashi and Hamada (1980); it was replaced with Siciliproetus by Jell and Adrain (2002); it was reranked as Paraproetus by Sepkoski (2002), Owens (2004).

It was assigned to Neoproetus by Kobayashi and Hamada (1979); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cornuproetinae by Owens (2004).
