Naucoris was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. It is the type genus of Naucoridae, Naucoroidea, Naucorinae, Naucorini.
It was assigned to Hemiptera by Geoffroy (1762), Schaeffer (1766), Latreille (1796); to Ryngota by Fabricius (1798); to Notonectariae by Latreille (1802); to Naucoridae by Heer (1853); to Naucorinae by Statz (1950); and to Naucorini by Nel and Paicheler (1992), Sites (2022).
