Taxonomy
Licnocephala was named by Ross (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u Sepkoski's reference number: 795]. Its type is Licnocephala bicornuta.

It was assigned to Bathyuridae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bathyurellinae by Fortey and Bruton (2013).
