Afrapia was named by Rasnitsyn and Brothers (2009). It is not extant. Its type is Afrapia globularis.

It was assigned to Maimetshidae by Rasnitsyn and Brothers (2009); to Maimetshini by Engel (2016); and to Maimetshinae by Li et al. (2025).
