Shuragobia frater was named by Popov (1988). Its type specimen is PIN 4023/834, an exoskeleton, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Bayan Teg Coal Quarry (PIN collection 4023), which is in a Bajocian/Bathonian pond claystone in Mongolia.
