Plesiosaurus macrodeirus was named by Seeley (1869). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wichford, near Haddenham and Ely, which is in a Kimmeridgian/Tithonian marine horizon in the Kimmeridge Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
