Cicadopsyllinae was named by Martynov (1931).

It was synonymized subjectively with Prosbolidae by Shcherbakov (1984); it was reranked as the family Cicadopsyllidae by Martynov (1935), Becker-Migdisova (1960), Becker-Migdisova (1961), Novokshonov (1998).

It was assigned to Permopsyllidae by Martynov (1931); to Homoptera by Martynov (1935); to Cicadopsyllidea by Becker-Migdisova (1960), Becker-Migdisova (1961); and to Hemiptera by Novokshonov (1998).
