Taxonomy
Anthophorites mellona was named by Heer (1849) [Type designated by Cockerell (1909)]. It is an impression. Its type locality is Oeningen (Zurich collection), which is in a Sarmatian crater lake limestone in the Upper Freshwater-Molasse Formation of Germany.
