Permothrips was named by Martynov (1935). It is not extant. Its type is Permothrips longipennis.
It was assigned to Permothripidae by Martynov (1935); to Archescytinidae by Sharov (1972); and to Aeolothripidae by Mound and Hastenpflug-Vesmanis (2021).
