Taxonomy
Phaneroptera was named by Serville (1831). It is extant. It is the type genus of Phaneropterini, Phaneropteridae.

It was assigned to Phaneropterini by Harz (1969), Garai (2010), Storozhenko et al. (2015); and to Phaneropterinae by Fujiyama and Nomura (1986), Mugleston et al. (2018).
