Tuditanus huxleyi was named by Cope (1875). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Linton, which is in a Westphalian D mire/swamp coal in Ohio.
It was recombined as Macrerpeton huxleyi by Moodie (1909) and Schoch and Milner (2014).
