Lyctocorinae was named by Reuter (1884). It is extant. Its type is Lyctocoris.

It was reranked as the family Lyctocoridae by Szwedo (2018).

It was assigned to Anthocoridea by Popov and Herczek (2001), Popov (2003), Popov et al. (2011); and to Cimicoidea by Szwedo (2018).
