Angolatitan was named by Mateus et al. (2011). It was considered monophyletic by Mateus et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Lithostrotia by D'Emic (2012); and to Somphospondyli by Mateus et al. (2011), Mateus et al. (2012), Mannion et al. (2013), Mannion et al. (2019), Apesteguía et al. (2021).
