Euscelis was named by Brullé (1832). It is extant. It is the type genus of Euscelinae.
It was assigned to Euscelini by Statz (1950), Pierce (1963); to Cicadellidae by Park and Downing (2001); and to Athysanini by Zahniser and Dietrich (2010), Borodin and Borodina (2021).
