Goniotelina hesperia was named by Ross and Barnes (1967) [Paratypes: USNM 145795-98.]. Its type specimen is USNM 145794, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Acidiphorus hesperia by Brett and Westrop (1996).
