Taxonomy
Telephus americanus was named by Billings (1865) [Lectotype selected by Ulrich 1930]. Its type specimen is GSC 700b (lectotype), a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Telephina americanus by Marek (1952).
